Why can't I send or respond to Personal Messages?
Why can't I send or respond to Personal Messages?
I think there's something wrong with the settings.
Any chance Dave or a Mod could look into this for me?
Cheers!

Just to clarify:
I can receive, just not compose new ones to others or reply to ones I get.

Re: Why can't I send or respond to Personal Messages?
You have done enough posts so its not that Goggle,
Has the person your trying to compose had their maibox set to 'NO PM?
Check your own settings.
I do believe only Dave, no mods, least I never saw any. There is Ade but he is someone else Incognito, he does the tech stuff I am led to believe.
Dave will sort you out.

Re: Why can't I send or respond to Personal Messages?
Thanks for the suggestion but I'm pretty sure it's not that Kata.
Both Ste and Simba have sent me messages and I was scouring the page for a reply button but there wasn't one anywhere. I decided to just send a new message in response but I get a message saying you are not authorised to use this feature. There's also no PM setting in my User CP.
Not so long back Dave fixed my problem of being unable to post in certain areas and said there was some sort of error so I'm guessing that this is related to that and something else needs a tweak.
I'd send him amessage to tell him to have a look for me but..... Catch 22!
Not sure if it's just me or all new members and I'm just the only one with a gob big enough to shout about it.

Re: Why can't I send or respond to Personal Messages?
Have you got 'compose message' on the left side?
Re: Why can't I send or respond to Personal Messages?
tried clicking 'PM' inbetween profile and email?
Re: Why can't I send or respond to Personal Messages?
Yes but when I click it I get "You are not authorised to send Personal messages. "kata wrote:Have you got 'compose message' on the left side?

Re: Why can't I send or respond to Personal Messages?
Ok, before we get any more speculation.
Kata..... Aidan, or Aido, is my son, and is the webmaster of this website. Ade is member Adrian from Southampton. No incognito, just you confusing people with similar sounding names
New members join with a privilege set of Registered Member. This does not allow the sending of PMs, or access to off topic. The reasons for this are we don't want groups joining to just PM each other, and 'Off Topic' would probably frighten half of new members into not posting.
Once a member is posting then they can apply to become a Registered user + Which gives full member access.
I cannot test this out as my Admin priv means I can see and do all functions, but you need to go to
'User Control Panel' Top left, under the Home tab.
'Options' left hand side
'Usergroups' Second to bottom
This should offer you a radio button to request access as a 'Registered User +' Click this and then submit. The request will then come to admin for approval
Simple

Followed your instructions tothe letter (although your idea of Top Right is completely different to mine ) and got to the Radio Button n Usergroups.
I ticked the box for registered members and hit submit and got "You are already a member of this group"
There's a group called Registered Members+ but there's no checkbox next to it.

Manually moved you to Registered users+ but that means I still don't know why it didn't work for you.
Best regards
Dave

Re: Why can't I send or respond to Personal Messages?
Cheers Dave. I suppose thatif it's only me that is having issues then it's problem solved but if it is going to happen to every new member of the forum it might need some Mulder & Scullying.
Re: Why can't I send or respond to Personal Messages?
same problem for me too I'm afraid, can you add me too please?
Thankyou for a great forum by the way, I'm checking this daily!

Re: Why can't I send or respond to Personal Messages?
Same here. People have sent me PM`s which I cannot reply to. It says I do not have permission to send or compose personal messages, or words to that effect.
Dave`s solution does not work for me, there is no "radio button" next to the registered members+ group, just the registered members.
