Any idea how long a member has to wait before being allowed to PM?

Surely it is better then that people cannot PM me either as I cannot respond to them which is a little frustrating.

Thanks.

It is not automatic, so it doesn't happen until asked.

Unfortunately there is only one setting for receiving PMs, so as Moderators may need to contact members outside of public posts, receive has to be set to on for all members.

Dave Brown wrote:I cannot test this out as my Admin priv means I can see and do all functions, but you need to go to

'User Control Panel'
Top left, under the Home tab.
'Options' left hand side
'Usergroups' Second to bottom
This should offer you a radio button to request access as a 'Registered User +' Click this and then submit. The request will then come to admin for approval
My User Control Panel has no radio button next to "Registered User +"

If I click on the Radio Button for "Registered Users" and "Join selected" then [Submit] I get:

"You are already a member of the selected group."

Thanks.

I've got exactly the same problem. Unable to upgrade to membership + due to missing button and can't yet respond to PM's.

I would have thought that to get membership+ you have to donate,

Kyle your quite new so I doubt you can be a +member but I don't know.

Dave, whats the criteria to be met to become +member?

There are 3 pages of such members.
This is a special group, special groups are managed by the board administrators.

Kata....That maybe incorrect.......Donation's are optional I believe.......you just need to request the PM\Membership option. Dave or Aido will pickup on this thread and update Kyle and refresh us all on the process......but don't worry, nobody gets PM automatically.

No Coddy, Kata is right. Kyle needs to send us all £20 each to spend on plants then we'll all send him thank you messages.

I applied for plus Membership shortly after I joined here (last Autumn I think) and it didn't seem to work (might have done, but it wasn't apparent to me), I then sent a PM (to Dave I think) and before I knew it I was upgraded.

I can't imagine I had many posts and I certainly had not donated (then ... have now though)

Would help if someone said (in this thread) whether a PM is necessary, or not - and perhaps for Aido? to be aware that the "Select Plus Membership" route doesn't appear to work from the User's PoW (even if it does in the Admin tools)

If getting a plus membership requires being and standard member for x amount of time, that's fine. It's just unfair that you're unable to respond to PM's and makes you feel like you're being ignorant. If this is a time/post requirement thing then it would be best to prevent messages being received during that time.

I don't think this is the case though. It's more likely a technical issue with the missing button. Out of curiosity, I'm using a Mac and Safari is my browser. It wouldn't be the first time I've encountered vanishing/unclickable buttons because of this?

I think Dave just needs to do the admin click thing and you'll be free to send abuse oops I mean messages to all and sundry.

;)

That would be good. Still, It ought to be clarified for others when it crops up in the future.

P.S. I'd love to throw a £20 your way, Goggs, how about a Heracleum mantegazzianum instead? There's plenty of them been cropping up around Huddersfield. icon_aaargh
