Logging in quirk/bug
Logging in quirk/bug
When i'm not logged in and go to reply to a post - it asks me to log in and then diverts me to the forum index page, it sould take me back to the the post I was just on! If I have over 20+ tabs open it can take some time to then relocate the post I was trying to reply to
Only a small quirk but probably an easy fix which will impove the intuitiveness of the forum.
I'm the admin of another large forum Dave so can find out where the setting is if your unsure

I know what you mean Cordy,
I don't need it here but where I go it happens at some forums. Just login first.
Wow....so many tabs

Re: Logging in quirk/bug
I hate it when I'm logged in and type a long reply to a post, sometimes adding pictures, and just as I click preview I become logged out and have to start again from scratch, including selecting and uploading the pics again.
I now 'select all' and 'copy all' before I click preview if it's a long post.

Re: Logging in quirk/bug
Guests cannot post so you cannot reply when not logged in.
Cookies are not set when you are a guest, so when you do login a new session is started, taking you to the forum index page, that is a phpbb board settinbg and has been set that way since the forum was set up.
Closing a session is set to 4 hours if my memory is correct, but your PC could be set to terminate differently, and as the post form is displayed on your PC it will continue to display even if logged off. If you don't have the 'Auto login' box checked, it does not autologin when you try to preview or submit, asking you to manually login instead, This loses post information as you are starting a new session.
Aidan may correct me if that is not the case, but that is my understanding.

Re: Logging in quirk/bug
Thanks for the detailed Imformation Dave!
I always login first, not much point if guests can't post as is the case in mine too.
Well the shutters are down to guests to prevent spam in mine anyway. Registrations are approved by me, or not.
Its in maintence mode, has been for weeks now......no time.
Thanks

Re: Logging in quirk/bug
i've been in the members only forums today and made a few posts. It keeps logging me out as well, i've CTRL-F5 refreshed to rule out any cached issues.
I've written long replies, i'm logged in, I hit reply, then get asked to log in. I then lose everything i've just typed.
I've ticked the log in box option, but this becomes unticked.
Started to copy and paste everything i've typed in case.

Have you tried a different browser Cordy?
Or shut down and restarted after clearing the Cache?

Re: Logging in quirk/bug
If you have changed your privicy settings or cookie settings that could make a difference. Also I had a similar problem after updates were added as it seemed to change my privicy settings. If you are working from a work PC, the admin may have changed something.
I am not being logged out, so there is no issue with the board, or it's settings.

Re: Logging in quirk/bug
with regard to the forum not redirecting correctly this was due to a style update needing to be applied. You should now be taken to where you should be after logging in, not the forum home as before.
The fix for anyone wanting to know was add
to the code on the login and index pages template files
The fix for anyone wanting to know was add
Code: Select all
{S_LOGIN_REDIRECT}
Re: Logging in quirk/bug
That would be on the CSS..yea?{S_LOGIN_REDIRECT}
I am thinking that may not work on all forum softwares Aido, Is this correct.
I work with SMF for Instance.
Thanks!!

Re: Logging in quirk/bug
It's specific to phpbb 3.0.7 and above, the language is phpbb's own tag that is replaced by php generated code.
Re: Logging in quirk/bug
