Hi From Derby
Hi From Derby
Hello, I live in Derby and after viewing this website it has inspired me to start growing my own palm plants!! I've got hold of my seeds today for the following plants.....
Yucca Rostrata,
Phoenix canariensis,
Trachycarpus wagnerianus,
Phoenix loureiroi,
Phoenix dactylifera,
Syagrus romanzoffiana
I've been given basic germination instructions but I don't really know how best to get started, any advice would be really appreciated, i.e what media is best to grow seeds in to start with?
Many Thanks
Tony

Hi and welcome Sorry but cannot help with your seedlings because only just joined and have so much to learn myself but hopefully someone more experienced will come along.

Here is a starter whilst your waiting.

I don't have much luck with tropical seed germination but loads are on the forums.

You won't only grow them which is great for the feeling you get out of them but you will also want to purchase fair size too. Soon HT will go to Akamba where they buy loads of tropical plants.
Good luck Tony!

Re: Hi From Derby
hi Tony your yucca and Trachycarpus seeds will germinate on a moist bed of compost with a slight covering at room temp.
the rest of your seeds will germinate well in sealed bags of spagnum moss in an airing cupboard or somewhere warmish.ideally 25-30c but nearer 30 for the syagrus
cheers,Darren
