hi lads an lasses
i'm Al from the wirral and i'm new to tropical gardening. in my previous abodes, had mainly a traditional garden, but this time, i'm going for a tropical theme. i don't know how it will hold up in the long run (i think it'll be ok!) as i'm around 2 mins walk from the promenade so that means wind and salt in abundance
i've started from scratch as the house and garden were a project, so everything was literally ripped out and started again.
anyways, great forum for tropical advice and ideas

Welcome to the Mad house Al. Post some pics of your garden when you can.

Welcome, Al
If you're that close to the water may all your posts be seasoned with salt

Welcome Al, I shall be interested to see what you can grow on the Wirral just a few miles north from me.
Re: new member from Meols, Wirral

a long way to go as yet, but i'll get there in the end.
heres how it started out, and is slowly evolving.

Looks like a great space Al, we'll watch this one with interest
Re: new member from Meols, Wirral
Welcome Al, nice garden you have there, lots of possibilities for your space. Cordylines should do great there, I think if memory serves right they have no problem with salty air.
Re: new member from Meols, Wirral
Your garden looks as if you've been working hard, great transformation so far.
A few Cordylines will add height cheaply and quickly (compared to other palms). Ebay is great for picking up bargain priced large palms if you don't mind digging them out yourself you can save £100s of pounds.
Fatsia Japonica add height and texture and are perfect for shady areas too.
I look forward to watching your garden develop. It might be worth creating a blog topic on here to keep all your pics in one place.
