hello from sunny newcastle
hello from sunny newcastle
hi all
i am paul from newcastle upon tyne, my username was meant to be vwpaulie but it appears that i missed the l out. oops!
i have been in my house for a while now, always lived in flats so i have never had a garden before. im only interested in gardening if i can make it look exotic, a run of the mill garden just doesn't appeal to me. so i guess i got the tropical bug before i mowed grass for the 1st time.
i have been transforming my garden into a tropical paradise., well trying too anyway.
ive got a few trachys, which i got half price from b&q waggies, chamerops, bamboos, yuccas, phormiums amongst other things. just bought a cerefera, hankered for one for a while now.
hopefully in a few years i can get the results i am after.
i would be interested to hear from anyone this far north on there experiences of growing in the north east climate.
cheers folks!
paul

Re: hello from sunny newcastle
Hi Paul, and welcome
I did wonder about the username at the time, but mine is not to question why I'll have a word with Aido (webmaster) so see if it is possible to add an l.
Sounds like you are already adding the basics of the more hardy plants. There are a few members from up your way, perhaps they can comment on what is possible

Welcome Paul My youngest son's best mate lives in your part of the world. Whenever they communicate on Skype most of the topic of conversation centres on how cold and/or wet it is up there. So how do you manage with exotics in your hostile climate.........?
Re: hello from sunny newcastle
cheers for the welcome folks... thanks dave if my L can be added that would be great.
just checked your garden pics deedee and i'm in ore...
tropical tom- will try to get some pics up soon of what i have done so far
greville - thats exacly what i am hoping to find out. my trachys have marched through the last few winters unscathed and my bamboo is taking well since planted however my chamerops took a beating in 2011 and appears to have regressed somewhat. lost a few things along the way too but hay-ho
deedee are you still in toon or an ex-pat??
