Trachycarpus fortunai seeds

Post by Jackmurph25 »

Hello everybody.
Im after some advice please, my grandad has a good aged fortunai in his garden with thousands of seeds on it. My question is, has this tree been fertilised to have grown seeds or do they produce seeds anyway? He only has the one palm and no other palms in either neighbours gardens. I understand a male and a female are needed to produce viable seeds but im just not sure on wether it would seed without being pollinated? Any help appreciated. Thanks

Hi, I also thought you needed a male tree to pollinate your grandads Trachycarpus, are you shure the seeds are fertile? If so there must be a male hiding somewhere.

Maybe there is a male in the area and by luck it has been polinated? I was just unsure if it would still produce seeds even if it hasnt been polinated. I have planted some nothing as of yet!
Thanks

You would have done better to have left them until they had turned black. icon_thumright
