Big Leaves for Exotic Effect by Stephen Griffith is a brilliant book to buy. Its very easy to read for non book worms. Good for beginners and more experienced. ISBN 1-86108-262-2

The book covers form and structure, climates and micro climates. hardiness of plants, size of plants, watering, planting density, shelter and winter prep.It then goes on to cultural techniques, landscaping, buildings, pots, furniture etc. Maps of hardiness zones and explanations. The rest of the book is split in to plant type sections with photos of each plant and really useful write up.
