X. Sagittifolium

Post by nicebutdim »

Does anyone grow these as I read they can grow as big as alocasia and look very similar.I've not read much about them on this forum and wondering why they don't get as much of a mention as alocasias and colocasias,if they are so similar

I have one sagittifolium and violaceum. They are now under my LED lamp ( a little experiment how LED light promotes growth of plants). I'm very pleased with their growth-better than colocasias in my opinion.

Hi Country lover ,can you give some info on your led lamp, sounds interesting as low light is a big problem coupled with the fact it's cheap to run I'm particularly interested in the height your lamp is,above the plants

Hi.
I have this kind of led lamp http://cgi.ebay.de/Profi-LED-Pflanzen-G ... 564102a187
So I put the lamp by the window about 20 cm above the plants. Within 2 weeks each plant produced 3 leaves but the petioles were so long I had to move 2 leaves of each plant from under the lamp. The result is these 4 leaves are smaller than should be due to lack of light. 2 leaves remaining under the lamp are just as they were grown in sunlight- normal size of leaf blades and healthy color.
Anyway, now the plant must thrive in normal daylight cuz I'm growing some Coleus and Passiflora seedlings under led light.
I'll try to take some pics of my experiment tomorrow

12"x12", 30,5x30,5 cm, 305x305 mm. 225 led lights.
I don't speak German whatsoever but Mozilla translates every language to me automatically
You'll find this sort of lamps on ebay. Plenty of them.
Funny thing is I bought the lamp from the German (or Hong Kong maybe icon_scratch ) seller (the link is above) but the stuff travelled from the UK :? Could not believe it but the address on the envelope was British and Royal Mail stamp  So if you decide to buy it p&p costs may be pretty low for you
BTW has anyone got Xanthosoma Lime Zinger pup for sale???

The info I have says if a Led array is 15w, it is 15w !, and the light output is the same if you have 15 x 1watt leds or 15000 x 1miliwatt leds, obviously 15000 leds will be much more expensive to manufacture  Don't look at the number of leds, look at the wattage

They did say that with current technology 1w leds produced the best light output per cost of the unit.
Best regards
Dave

Hi Dave
I'm a bit confused by your explantion I understand that if the array is 15w then it is 15w,don't know why anyone would think otherwise, but you seem to be under the impression that I couldn't understand that.My concern was the overall size i.e dimension of the unit. They did say that with current technology 1w leds produced the best light output per cost of the unit.

I was talking to Marcel, many sellers make a big point of the number of leds, when in fact it is a less effective way of lighting as the individual intensity of each led is much lower.

Dave I'm not French, Marcel is a French name icon_aaargh
Anyway, I'm not a professional grower and use this lamp just to keep my plants in better condition and to do some experiments. And i do not have to pay big electricity bills :DD
I used to grow cannabis and using much more professional lamps.
