Thinning out Bamboo

I have 2 clumps of bamboo that i want to cut all the thin canes out and take all the bottom bushy growth out when would be the best time to do this

now is a good time,while they are dormant getting ready for the spring .it will allow more space for the new culms and let more light and air into the centre and promote growth.dont take more than a third of the size of the plant away.just dead culms and weak canes.
