How about, Nandina domestica - 'Fire Power' I've never grown it - but I have seen it elsewhere , it does provide all year interest. There's probably someone on here who can either vouch for or dismiss it.

Or just cover it in Pachysandra Terminalis Green Carpet or Sasa veitchii or Arctostaphylos Uva-ursi. Job done.

Sasa veitchii would be great although it can be very rampant and be prepared for it to be coming up in the lawn( evan if you do put a barrier around it). This Bamboo is lovely, why does it have to be very invasive? Indocalamus tessallatus might be a better choice with nice big tropical style leaves?

Prepare to battle the slugs with Coleus!

And the ground will be bare most of the year.

Bung in some cheap Hebe!

For 30ft about 20 plants should do it.

I agree you'll be looking at bare soil for 6 months of the year with coleus.

Hi Codfarther, I would go with this one myself, it looks the part with all year interest,it's £9:99 with a £1 off on line discount, but if you want that effect your need to buy at least 20 at £164 or buy 10 and see if you can take cuttings, get them to strike then dot them in between the others once big enough of course

Arctostaphylos is an interesting genus. As well as the low growing Uva-Ursi there are small evergreen trees with nice leaves, flowers, red bark and fruits such as

Arctostaphylos Pungens

And Arctostaphylos Glauca

And loads of others. They are native to western USA.

Never seen one in the UK mind.

Getting back to small tropical looking hardy plants, how about
