more flowering bamboo

bought some bamboo from almulree this january in the sale its been planted a couple of months now.. and allways looked a bit sickly,been on my walk around taday in the garden and noticed its flowering(i will get pics)..will it make it through or isit set to die??

No expert but think it will die in the next few years. Depending on size and species it may die this year or survive for several more.

Not entirely true :wink: , some Boos only partially flower.

aureo suculenta spectablis as far as i can make out...only about 6 canes like i said bought in jan.. bit gutted

Off the top of my head Chris I can't name varieties without some research but in some boos Partial flowering, where only one or a few culms bear flowers, seldom causes the plant any lasting harm.

hope this isnt a signal that spectabilis species is about to flower all over the world.does any one know when this species last flowered?

Just been reading up on this & it seems it can flower & live, but as long as it's only the odd culm doing it. More worrying is their seems to be more & more reports this year

There's a topic on this on GOTE at the moment, the consensus of opinion seems to be that this particular bamboo can survive flowering.
