Show us your Paulownia stumps

Mine has been in the ground for almost 8 years now and I know you are supposed to cut it back hard, but I haven't for the following reasons:

1. I am scared it may not come back;
2. My back garden is very windy and I normally grow 4 buds to make the leaves a bit smaller;
3. I don't actually get a lot of growth in the season and I like having the leaves higher up to give more height;
4. My wife likes the stump from a structural/design point of view.



So, show us yours.

Ps. Growth on mine has been very retarded this year. I guess that is down to the coolish April and May we have had

Stump is the operative word in my garden here Did exactly the same as I do every year, cut it back to about 30cm, it started to grow, got about 45cm of new growth, then it flopped over and died I did have some lower buds but had rubbed these off leaving just two. One of these I pulled off when I seen the other one growing well.

The one down the bottom of the garden which I keep bushy to give some shade over the fern area as well, is growing well and normal.

Got no idea why the single stemmed one suddenly keeled over, it looked healthy enough the short while it was growing and couldn't see any obvious reason why it died.

chopped mine and a very young tree and takes a while to bud up after winter but they always do..

I enjoy living up here for a lot of reasons. However, growing Paulownias isn't one of them

It's right next to the Musa bajoo clumps so gets fed like a Banana

Yes they are fast once they decide to go. Just found a pic of my stump on 16th April, and the single shoot I'd left was about 3 inches or so. It is now over 5 feet

Here's a pic of the one I don't control, leaves not on the scale as the single stems, but still some impressive sized leaves. This ones great cos it gives much needed shade for other plants.

were did u all buy urs from i bought mine as a tiny sapling its now baby tree...... i want a one like jack and the beanstalk a really tall big one.... like the ones everywere as thorpe park... any ideas on purchase?? do i just need to get a fat stump as could try wyveale.....

Mine was only tiny last year when i planted it out but they grow like wild fire so just be patient Parkeey it will soon be huge

4yrs on stil a baby although as big as me but want it to clear the fence lol

You keeping it as one main shoot Parkeey? If its as big as you now, it should be way past the fence before the seasons out
