Aido and other webmasters and webmistress'

Post by kata »

Aido, and anyone who has a web site,

Hacking is a simpleton's passtime these days. We all need to keep ahead of them by making certain it does'nt happen to us by using this very useful scanner from time to time to check no one has 'dropped' anything in.

Scan your website for malware, blacklisting and to (extract application), not sure what that means. Anyway its good to scan.

Yes Coddy,

Thats what we scan for...malaware which is bad. I can use that scanner on my Wordpress sites, that kind of use.

The link to it came from a web designers newsgroup I am on.

The link above does not work, the address is slightly wrong.

to stay one step ahead, don't click on it if you don't expect it. Anything that states virus while viewing the web is most probably a virus itself. if you click the close button and the message re-appears do not click ok, turn the PC off and you'll save yourself time and/or money.

But for those who decide to use this should note that it does not scan the whole website. it scans things one click away from the address you tell it. So it will not tell you if the whole site is clean or not.

Also everyone should be aware that the free scan can be easily fooled as content displayed can be changed based on IP address. therefore bad content can be hidden from scanning websites and added when normal people view the site.

The best way to combat malware as an admin is to compare backups of your site at regular intervals using something like winmerge to show the differences between files on your server.

Kata, Ive been using Linux for years now and would never move back to windows.

The best and easiest to use version of linux is Ubuntu - http://www.ubuntu.com/ and with Linus there are no viruses. :D

Is it easy to install Musa?

Thanks for the link.

Also does it mean when there is a new version of windows would I still need to buy the software (windows) even though I am using Linux?

Kata, its really easy to install. download it, burn it to a disc, then you can install it whilst in windows. (you can also just try it without installing it. It runs from the cd and doesn't remove windows)

If you move over to Linux you never have to buy any windows software again. All Linux software is free open source.
