Jubaea palm growing in unusual place

Post by targui »

This large robust Jubaea palm was photographed growing out of the roof of a motel near the main street,
in King City, central California.

Make sure you post a pic when yours is as big as that one in California, just get your grandkids to pull you out of the cryogenics tube.

It'll be that big in 60 years and I may be around to see it. :D

Kris I think the one at the top must be over 100 years old.

Phoenix canariensis_CIDP could get to that size in 60 years though.

Thats a huge Jubaea! I didnt realise that their crowns grew so large, it almost looks like a Phoenix canariensis_CIDP. I assume that the motel was built around what would have been a sizeable mature palm even back then.

I don't think one in Yorkshire would get that big in 100 years, let alone 60!

How do they water it? Earth floors in all the bedrooms, and no drainpipe from the washbasins??

Speaking of... nothing more was ever heard from that guy (Henry?) in Yorkshire that planted the massive trunking Jubaea several years ago?
