Re: washingtonia filibusta
Mine was never completely sealed, but just had the fleece weighted down with rocks tied into the corners. Reached -7.2C outside, but no idea what the temp reached under the parasol.
Best regards
Dave

Re: washingtonia filibusta
I'm sure the temperature under your parasol was higher than -7.2C, with warmer air trapped underneath the parasol. That keeps the strong frosts away
A little bit a scary pic

Re: washingtonia filibusta
Photo taken a few days ago before the cold snap.
At the moment it's just got a dust sheet over it to keep some of the frost off.
Hopefully it's enough, don't think temperature has dropped below -3 or so.

Doing well, Mike
Mine's about the same size as yours and has had a couple of -2c's but no protection necessary yet.

Re: washingtonia filibusta
Looking very good , heres hoping for a mild winter for all of us.
Re: washingtonia filibusta
Well the house that has the filibusta in is now my wife's house and I've got a new one with all my plants in pots.
This means last night and tonight it's totally unprotected to the sub zero temps.
Be interesting to see how it performs over the winter.

Re: washingtonia filibusta
Here's the result of the last freeze, unprotected in temperatures down to about -6.
I'm sure it will recover from this freeze, as I no longer live there I can't protect it from any more cold spells and my wife is not the gardening type to do it.

Re: washingtonia filibusta
Hmm Washingtonia robusta defoliate at around -8 C in southern Tasmania . Some friends of mine have one with 3m of ct and it browns off every so often below those temperatures .
Re: washingtonia filibusta
Got another picture of it today, been unprotected.
I've covered it in three large dust sheets this afternoon due to the possible very cold temperatures it will see in the coming days.
It's looking a bit tatty now, but I've seen Washies recover from worse.
