Butia yatay x Syagrus romanzoffiana

Post by pindo »

Hello to all

I share some pictures of Butia yatay x Syagrus romanzoffiana. This palm is in a friend's house, is a natural hybrid and occurs in those habitats where both species overlap.
This palm grow in a sector of the farm where occur some fires and you can see the tracks. For this reason my friend removed it and planted it in the current site. In my opinion, too in the shade
You can see various details of their anatomy
Regards

Hola José,

That is such a beautiful palm. I'm sure many of us in the UK are hoping to get some Butiagrus to that size :D

Now that is a far more attractive palm than the other Syagrus hybrid, has very much a coconut palm look about it. icon_thumleft

The butia genus is perhaps the most beautiful of all pinnate palms, yet is very variable. I wonder if the addition of the syagrus gene stems this variability. I also wonder if it would last in the british climate as it looks a fine specimen.
