Ahh - sunshine at last - 16C today. Forecast is for temps to plummet again but wow, to feel the warmth of the sun is bliss. My ensetes are dead, my cannas are dead, my trachies are a sickly pale green, my eucalypts are wind burnt to shreds, as are most of my bamboos but hey.............I have new culms poking up, my ricinuses are happy in the greenhouse, my hercules are having a growth spurt, my husband has survived a 16 mile hike up a mountain - I'm counting my blessings............one by one......

Maybe Tom ----- we've been long considering a move back south - now I am potting up all the plants I think will do well in more hospitable climes. Our son has just got permanent work in Cornwall after having temporary jobs there for the last 3 years - somewhere near St Austell sounds attractive..........

Sunny and warm today - a bit a sea mist rolled in late this afternoon but otherwise a welcome change. My yaks (rhodies are in full bloom and my Hercules are also doing their stuff. Maybe I'll get a photo of my Hercules tomorrow.......

A few more pictures - the wildlife pond is having a makeover..................

The other half is making an arbour so we can sit and get bitten by the Highland midges as we admire the pondweed.....

I will be making a mosaic for the floor when I get around to it........

The side garden is beginning to bloom - tree peonies out, Dicksonia antarctica fronds unfolding, and sick looking Trachycarpus.

The other half is busy rebuilding a retaining wall out the back........

More pics of around the garden - my holm oak grown from an acorn I picked up when we lived in Cornwall is now about 12 foot tall. The rhodies are also having a good year.

Eucalyptus Coccifera grown from seed collected locally now in flower. Maybe not that exotic but at least it is southern hemisphere........

Carnage in the garden today; gales have wiped out several trees and torn off tree limbs. My weeping ash has probably wept for the last time. My larch with a list to starboard now has a nearly horizontal list. Perhaps I'll rename it, "prostrate larch" With more wind and rain forecast today, there is not much I can do but stand at the window and watch. We hve been out and done a bit of emergency tree surgery but it isn't the sort of day to go climbing ladders with a saw. Roll on summer.
