What a hystery for a wolf. But if one day they want to reintroduce wolves back in the wild in the UK or Scotland then they should use the one from continental Europe. So Poland or Germany for example. Interesting is that in Northwestern Scotland there are much less people living then in Germany and Poland where wolfs are found at the moment. So with the amount of deer in that area it should be a good area for Canis lupus. And good for local tourism as is the case now in parts of Germany where wolfs are found.

Here some usefull information.

Unfortunately the idiots who own the land will kill them. Golden and sea Eagles snd many other raptors are still poisoned up there.
Most wanted list - Any Young Trachycarpus and/or fern.

A statistical survey of raptors a few years ago demonstrated that over 90% of grouse moor shooting estates were involved in illegal killing of birds of prey.

It's not just the odd rotten apple, it's the whole lot of them.

Here the situation of the wolf in Western continental Europe.

http://www.bild.de/news/inland/wolf/sch ... .bild.html

naturaxilocae.blogspot.nl/2011/11/patas-de-corzo.html

About 150 in Germany, 500 in Italy, 230 in France, 200 in Portugal and 2000 in Spain!

In France there are also about 150 lynx.

Well maybe when they see in the UK how the situation on the continent goes on then something maybe will change in the futur.

And here some more in English.

Well if we do not allow the wolf some space in our part of the World then why should people tolerate lions in Africa or tigers in India. And those 2 big cats can be dangerous to people.

Here in Europe its only livestock wich gets into trouble when not well protected from wolf atacks.

But wolfs can also bring money in rural areas because of wildlife tourism. And I have seen in India how many hotels you get near a national park with tigers like Ranthambor or Corbet National Park.

Also this link is good to read. Would be something for Scotland as well.

We all like conservation and the aim of conservation is to have an environment that supports the maximum amount of species that once existed here. So that includes species the Billdango has said. The Highlands of Scotland has a low population density so species like Wolf, bear and Elk could be reintroduced. There are far too many deer and that is causing reforestation from happening, so wolves could be used to control them naturally.

People in the UK treat the countryside as some giant garden - safe and controlled. We used to respect it, so perhaps some large predators would help regain that lost respect.

Most of the UK and also here most land is cultivated anyway. But its for those large thinly populated areas that those large animals and wolfs could be reintroduced. There nature should be do its thing again. Well it has bassically to do with a change of attitude in the local population first. And that takes time.

Small naturereserves are usely managed in a differend way like with sheep or mowing by man.

British wolves, Lynx and even bears were discussed on bb2 winter watch last night.
I don't fancy bumping into a bear in the woods.

Maybe bears not. But wolfs are no bears. There are several places where bears live wild in Europe. For example in Italy, Sweden and Finland. And when did you hear of accidents with them here in Europe. Well in Germany nor Poland are there any bears. Those wolfs are just repopulating there former homelands.
Lynx have been reintroduced, and those a very shy animals. You might be very lucky if you see one!

on a personal level i would love to see the large carnivores back in the UK and i feel they are needed to control "pest" species such as deer, badger and fox. But i have to say as a chicken farmer i wouldnt want wolves or lynx around  i have a big enough problem with foxes. i dont want to start an arguement but i feel if a large predator was killing my livestock it would have to be either trapped and released in a safe location or shot (which would have to be a last resort)
