Hello!

After a month I go Taiwan and i bring for you Hardy. :)
But it's also good. Schefflera delavayi
Or Schefflera taiwaniana.

I would say schefflera delavayi for large leaves and hardiness. I do find caterpillars are partial to scheffies so do watch out for damage.

I'd also look at Delavayi but I don't know of any suppliers selling large specimens. Have a look at the Alternative Eden blog for some schefflera pics.

There are not many plants available at the £50 price point, you're looking at between £10 and £20 for small specimens from Mark Fillan or Dutchy (might be worth ringing Pan Global, and Hardy Exotics also), or larger plants from Crug starting around £65.

Chapana and Alpinia are also worth considering but again you'll struggle for your budget.

I love how he says he doesn't recommend someone go and plant Schefflera arboricola in their garden

damn! what was I thinking?

I'd actually go for a Schefflera taiwaniana but I simply don't have space in the garden.
