plants in pots
Im not a fan of plants in pots but i notice a lot of people keep plants potted. what is the advantage of this?
Re: plants in pots
Some trees will stay smaller in a pot .Easy to move your garden around without digging up and if you have half hardy plants you can move them under cover. Poor soil or a concrete garden it maybe the only option for you.
Re: plants in pots
* Plants which need acid soil can be grown on our London clay.
* I can grow stuff which needs super drainage by backfilling the pot with gravel.
* I can move pots around.
* I can bring the pots in to over winter.
I do try to put as much as possible in the ground and I really do have far too much potted but each one has its reason.

Re: plants in pots
I have used lots of big homemade wooden planters in the bottom half of my garden that wasn't suitable for planting into the ground to create lots of height like a sunken garden but in reverse.
also pots on things etc for same effect/reason.
where there is no ground for planting pots make room for extra plants
hostas grow better in pots because of the pests
just like everything in gardening it is a way of making the best of a given situation
