Cortederia Roots

I have just scythed down a Cortederia, and now that I can see the base, it has a circumference of about 3 ft.....seems like a task to dig it out, can it be killed off in some other way....?

I didn't know what a Cortederia was, but do now...
Pay a young man to do it, is the only easy way I can think of.
Well that's what I'd do......

I took one out that wide. I split it in four in situ and dug out a quarter at a time.
