Pine tree/shrub to I'D please
Hi, I found this seeded in some shingle while weeding, any ideas what it could be? flat needles, slight pine smell when crushed. thanks

looks similar, but I've ruled that out..Springy wrote:My first thought is Taxus baccata. Yew tree.

Why is it ruled out?Wilza wrote:looks similar, but I've ruled that out..Springy wrote:My first thought is Taxus baccata. Yew tree.

Grand Fir Abies grandis.
Fast-growing, and eventually huge - one in Scotland is 64 metres tall (2nd tallest tree in the UK). So be careful where you plant it!
Edit: here's one in Northumbs. (not quite so large, it's only 57 metres tall ):

Yew shoots are green at one year old, not orange-brown as here.fern Rob wrote:Why is it ruled out?Wilza wrote:looks similar, but I've ruled that out..Springy wrote:My first thought is Taxus baccata. Yew tree.

Wow! I hope it isn't that haha! There is a scotts pine near to where I found it but nothing else. I'd hoped it was some sort of ornamental tree rather than a fancy Christmas Tree!Conifers wrote:Grand Fir Abies grandis.

Defo pinus, though not Scots pine. I find pine seedlings where birds like to poop on my garden.
Re: Pine tree/shrub to I'D please
I'll grow it on and see if it shapes up to be a decent christmas tree for the house in a few years..
