Hi all,

Great Big Leaf Pics.

Planning to get one of these next year, but what size of plant would I need to get for it to grow leaves around 50 - 90CM?

It depends on the plant Sat, The Colocasia I call Mammoth, can get from a small pup with no rhizome to 80cm+ leaves in a single season. Colocasia Burgundy Stem needs 3 years to get to maximum size. Jack's Giant maybe the same. Alocasia, all need time to reach a good size, although in the US with summer HEAT they grow much quicker.

John's Thai Giant is a quick grower, but does not seem to pup, so will be difficult to get hold of.

The last years Wilkinsons Elephany Ear grew a massive 81cm leaf, sadly I don't have a pic of it with tape measure as hubby dropped my camera which broke.

How did you manage to rot them  They are almost rot proof

They were not Alocasia they were Colocasia Mammoth or the famous Wilkcos Alocasia

Mins are between 6C and 10C, with Max between 7C and 20C. Dehumidifier maintains the humidity to 60-65%.

Humidity and cold is a problem as rots are very quick to set in.

I'll have to try lifting my temps a bit next winter, have maintained around 5-6c this winter, but both my Alocasia's I bought in the Amulree winter sale are dead, well rotten.I'll make sure I keep them nearer the middle of the greenhouse next winter,I'm wondering where they were close to the doors,it might have got a lot colder there,a dragon tree that was next to them lost it's growing point.

I still have 1 Alocasia (Wenti-aline) and it has never looked as good as the year I bought it, but it is STILL ALIVE! . I can't say the same for C.Black Magic though; I managed to keep it alive last winter only for it to rapidly cark it once planted out

I had one out last summer, I bet it's not hardy, so it will not come back this summer or will it :?: :?:
